How to prepare this recipe
This recipe for hot dog in dough is close to a traditional American one, with the funny name of “pigs in a blanket”. But this recipe is not the American “pigs in blanket” recipe. Soon we will make that too.
Frankfurter rolls, as a member of pigs in a blanket type foods, are very popular in Hungary. Stores supply a wide range of “virsli” (that’s how is called hot dog in Hungary).

They are ideal if you have unexpected visits, for evenings spent with friends on TV at a football match or for children’s birthdays. If you have a sheet of puff pastry in the freezer and a few beer sausages in the fridge… it’s perfect!

Using a sharp knife, cut the frankfurters into 48 pieces, first cut a sausage into 3 pieces, then cut those 3 into half.
Roll out the puff pastry thinly, then cut it in half and then into 2×24 strips. Wrap puff pastry strips around each halved sausage.
Place them on a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Brush tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with grated cheese or your favourite seeds, or both.Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until golden brown, in a preheated oven at 210°C (410°F).
