A Little History of Fish Pie

Fish pie is a traditional British dish that has a long history dating back to the medieval times. Originally, it was a way for households to use up leftover fish and it was a popular dish among the lower classes.
The dish typically consists of a pastry crust filled with a mixture of cooked fish, usually cod, salmon or haddock, mixed with vegetables such as peas, carrots, and potatoes and a creamy sauce.

In the 19th century, fish pie became more popular among the middle and upper classes, and it was often served as a main course during large dinner parties.
Today, it is still a popular dish in the UK, and it can be found in many restaurants and pubs.
The recipe has also evolved, and many variations exist, including the addition of different types of fish, seafood, and cheese, and the use of mashed potatoes as a topping instead of a pastry crust.

Instructions

    to 180°C (350°F).
