Imagine serving
up mini jack-o-lanterns at your party, but instead of pumpkins, these little guys are made from real oranges! Each one is hollowed out, decorated with classic spooky faces, and then filled with a rich and gooey chocolate cake.
When you pop the lid (the orange top), your guests will discover the delicious surprise inside.
What makes these Halloween Party Jack-o-Lantern Chocolate Orange Cakes even more impressive is that they’re not just for show. The orange peel adds a subtle citrus flavor to the moist chocolate cake, making every bite a mix of sweet and tangy.
Plus, the orange shells naturally hold the cake together, which means no messy pans or excessive clean-up!
These little treats are also a lot of fun to make, especially if you want to get the kids involved. Carving the orange peels into jack-o-lanterns is just like carving a pumpkin but on a much smaller scale—and far less messy! It’s an easy and creative way to add that Halloween vibe to your dessert table.
Whether you’re hosting a kids’ Halloween party, or a spooky gathering for friends, these cute and creepy cakes are guaranteed to be a hit.
Not only
do they look like they belong in a haunted house, but they also taste absolutely fantastic. Serve them warm for an even more indulgent treat, or let them cool off for a more refreshing twist.
Either way, these Halloween Party Jack-o-Lantern Chocolate Orange Cakes will quickly become a new Halloween tradition.
Ingredients
Instructions
Prepare the oranges
Cut the tops off the oranges (set these aside for the “lids”).
Scoop out the inside of the oranges carefully, being careful not to puncture the peel. Save the orange pulp for another recipe.
Make the chocolate cake batter
Melt the dark chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water (double boiler method) until smooth.
In a separate bowl, beat the sugar and eggs together until pale and fluffy.
Add the melted chocolate mixture to the eggs and stir to combine.
Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt, then gently fold these dry ingredients into the wet mixture until fully combined.
Fill the orange “pumpkins”
Spoon the chocolate cake batter into each prepared orange shell, filling them about three-quarters full.
Place the orange tops (the “lids”) back on top of each filled orange.
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Place the filled oranges on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cake is set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the orange cakes to cool slightly before serving.
Use a sharp knife to carefully carve out the jack-o-lantern faces.
These can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.
Enjoy, Good Appetite!
Happy Halloween!
