How To Preserve The Freshness of Vegetables and Herbs For Longer Time
Thanks to proper storage, vegetables and herbs can maintain their freshness for a much longer time, thus preventing them from ending up prematurely in the trash. Moreover, there's no need to constantly rush to the store for fresh produce.
Not everyone can afford to go to the store or market for fresh food every day; many, just like myself, acquire fresh ingredients once or twice a week. Naturally, no one wants their vegetables to spoil, so it's incredibly important to store them properly to be sure that we are Preserving Freshness of Vegetables and Herbs.
In storage, inexpensive tools can also be extremely useful, such as ice cube trays, kitchen paper towels, or freezer bags.
Freezer Bags
It's worthwhile to place fresh herbs in a freezer bag and then place it in the refrigerator. With this method, they can remain fresh for up to 5-6 days, as if you had just bought them that day.
Kitchen Paper Towels
Kitchen paper towels with good moisture-absorbing capacity are not only useful for cleaning but also excellent for storing vegetables. One of the best tips is to line the vegetable compartment in the refrigerator with them. The advantage of this is that vegetables can release moisture, which the paper towel absorbs, preventing the compartment from becoming moist and allowing the products to maintain their freshness for longer, avoiding spoilage.
However, it's important to check and replace the paper every 3-4 days.
Kitchen Towel
As a more eco-friendly solution, you can use a kitchen cloth with good moisture-absorbing capacity instead of paper towels. For instance, when wrapping asparagus in a damp kitchen cloth and placing it in the fridge, you can contribute to preserving its crisp freshness for a longer period.
Ice Cube Tray
The ice cube tray is a versatile tool that offers numerous possibilities. Chop fresh herbs, place them in the small compartments, pour enough oil to cover them, and then freeze. Take out the frozen cubes from the tray and transfer them to a freezer bag before putting them back in the freezer.
These herb-infused cubes can be excellent flavor enhancers for dishes and can last for a long time.
